Master woodworker and chairmaker Brian Boggs, who founded Brian Boggs Chairmakers, began his career with a woodworking book, zero power tools, and his own two hands. Over the next 30 years, he refined his prototype into an award-winning model known for its exceptional style, comfort, and workmanship.
Each piece of custom seating is built to an heirloom spec that’s intended to last for generations. The craftsmen at Brian Boggs Chairmakers are ready to meet your request from scratch or based around one of our existing award-winning models.
Custom Seating Based on Classic Appalachian Designs
The organic style and structure of our custom seating comes from two sources: 1) our beautiful natural surroundings in the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina, and 2) the deliberately ergonomic way we contour the seats and backs of our chairs.

Comfort is our first priority, and we’ve found that everything else (like looks and durability) naturally falls right into place on its own by integrating intelligent ergonomics into traditional Appalachian forms. We build our custom seating with a variety of woods including mahogany, oak, and walnut. The rich grains and finished hues of Brian Boggs Chairmakers carpentry can enrich your living, dining, and family rooms.
Introducing the Sunniva Line of Outdoor Custom Seating
Brian Boggs Chairmakers is proud to release our latest line of outdoor custom seating: the Sunniva Outdoor Arm Chair and Sunniva Outdoor Rocking Chair. Using a special tool Brian developed and built in-house, we combine a “sandwich” of special laminate woods to create a comfortable seat back, curved and designed with the spine in mind, yet can also withstand all the elements of the outdoors year round.
The Sunniva line of outdoor custom seating is a welcome addition to any patio, porch, or deck, and provides you with a relaxing outdoor space to read, tan, watch the clouds pass, or gaze at the stars.
