Comfortable. Classic. A beautifully articulated expression of comfort specifically designed to benefit the physical health of musicians. Born of collaboration with guitarists and decades of ergonomic study. Customized to your dimensions.
How can a wooden chair be so comfortable? The solid wood form of the Sonus is sculpted to accommodate the human body perfectly. We did this by shaping the back to conform to your lumbar, support your rib cage, and stay clear of the shoulder blades (as well as any guitar being played from any angle). The seat shape supports the thighs and posterior as uniformly as possible while providing good circulation for the legs. Thick leather feet on the bottoms of the legs protect your floor and help cushion the seat.
Our all-wood chair outperforms any padded chair and allows for the following benefits:
- Far more durable as there is nothing to wear out (The Sonus is guaranteed for life)
- Stays cool during hours of playing
- Is absolutely silent in case you want to record your playing
From Brian Boggs, Creator of the Sonus: “Most of us think of playing music as a wonderful expression of soul. It is that, but for accomplished musicians it is also physically demanding. Musicians suffer from myriad physical difficulties as they position their bodies around their instruments. This chair is designed specifically to support them comfortably for hours of practice or performance. The Sonus chair promotes better posture, circulation and expression of movement.”
Mahogany: Warm, straight-grained and reddish-brown, mahogany has long been prized for its beauty, durability and color. Ours is sustainably harvested by a trio of sawyers’ cooperatives in Honduras, and some of the same timber has gone on to become high-end guitars. This wood looks particularly great in our carved seats and backs (shown below), but is also available smooth.
Curly Maple: Also known as flame maple or tiger stripe, curly maple is prized for the elegant lines that play across its surface. These stripes shimmer under changing light or as you move around the chair, an optical effect that gives a sense of depth and is known as chatoyance (from the French for “cat’s eye”).
Ambrosia Maple: The bold, multicolored swirls that make this material so remarkable are actually the result of a beetle that bores into the tree, then cultivates a fungus that stains the wood. As a result, every piece of ambrosia maple is unique. We typically recommend pairing this wood with walnut legs because they can stand up to the dark patterns and make quite a show piece.
PRICE: $1800 – $2400 depending on wood species and degree of customization. Mahogany seat and back: $1,800 Curly Maple seat and back: $2,200 Ambrosia Maple seat and back: $2,400. Other woods available upon request. 30-day trial available.
